| History, Events, Entertainment: The
city of Woodstock was established in 1844, just twenty one
years before Alexandria House was built. The
town boasts a square with two gazebos, benches and a beautifully
maintained park setting. From April to September,
outdoor concerts are performed at the Main Gazebo. This is
the gazebo featured in the movie with Bill Murray, Ground Hog
Day, that was filmed right here in Woodstock . The Woodstock
Opera House hosts professional plays, noteworthy speakers on subjects
from travel to news casting. The Opera House proudly hosts
the annual Mozart Festival, from July to August, with performances by
musical artists from all over the world. Paul
Newman, Geraldine Paige, Orson Wells and Betsy Palmer are a few of the
stars that have performed on the stage at the Woodstock Opera House.
The Challenger Learning Center features a
replica space station that was co-sponsored by the astronaut Christa
McAuliffe's family and the Woodstock
Chamber of Commerce. More of the town’s history is available at the
newer library in town. The
city and its inhabitants. Woodstock's
activities include juried arts and crafts shows in the square, tractor
pulls, antique auto shows and the Fair Diddly. There is a
wonderful art gallery with juried pieces of art, sculpture and
pottery. This is a must see! Our
town boasts casual and fine dining with cuisine from French, Italian,
German, American menus. You can choose from the
many fine selections for spectacular dining. Holiday time features concerts, horse and
carriage rides, Ground Hog Day celebration, The Lighting of the Square,
Red Hat Ladies Day and Red Hat Parade and much more. All this makes for an entertaining and cultural
experience. In addition, we
have a Water Park for children that is fun for adults too, horseback
riding, golf courses and shopping galore. City
